Secret Identity

Who is Butterfly Samurai?

My name is Jessica and I’m a 20 something, aspiring author from South Carolina. Since 2001, I have been a member of the American pop culture convention scene. Now, I am a prominent diversity advocate who travels to conventions to speak about the topic and what it means to be a black cosplayer. I am an intense believer that Batman would beat Superman and have been waiting for my TARDIS key for years. A Playstation controller should just be glued into my hands. I have a Bachelors in English from Coastal Carolina University. I am currently a Webster University grad student studying Media Communications.

What is Butterfly Samurai?

This blog is a safe space for me to discuss what I believe is important within our geeky community. I talk about sex positivity, body positivity, and diversity. Black Panther is important. Sex Criminals totally made me more sexually open. Video games have changed my life.

Why Butterfly Samurai?

The name is derived from hours in technicolored arcades stomping on a dance pad with arrows. I heavily played Dance Dance Revolution for six years. One of my favorite songs to play was smile.DK’s “Butterfly”. Ai yi yi I’m you’re little butterfly. I adopted the name when I started playing video games online and became a Frag Doll Cadette for Ubisoft Entertainment in Spring 2011.
