Butterflysamurai.com is evolving?

I have struggled for such a long time with what the focus of this blog was. It was very difficult to discern what exactly I was trying to convey with this space on the internet. Prior to this blog, I had three different blogs. I combined all three to form this one. I have been thinking about changing the direction of this blog for quite some time…and I have known what subject matter I wanted to cover. I was just concerned with how that would be perceived.

So of course I wrestled with the idea to make this into a sex blog.

Yes, a sex blog. But it’s not exactly what you’re thinking. The blog would more or less focus on the depiction of sex and relationships within our geek culture and the properties we love so much. This idea truly started to form when I wrote my Sex Criminals post which is still the best thing I’ve written to date. There was an incredible spark in me when I hit publish on that post. It is the crowning achievement of a culmination of nearly ten years (yikes) of online journaling and blogging.

The shift in content does not mean I am throwing away what I have built here. I still love talking about conventions and sharing my cosplay plans. I still plan to incorporate that into this blog. I am just fiercely sex positive and love to analyze what creators are trying to say with their work. There are some troubling things in the geek world as there are also powerful movements that come out of it. We still have a long way to go before women in our culture and industries are depicted equally. We still have a ways to go before “Cosplay is not Consent” does not need to be shouted from the internet rooftops. There is plenty of room for more LGBT portrayals as well as positive hetero relationships.

I want to highlight all of this and more.

So, what do you think about this change? I encourage you to post your opinions in the comments section below.

  1. Honestly, I think it’s a brilliant idea for a focus. Love and sex are a huge part of life and there are definitely special issues that arise in those areas in the geeky arena. Can’t wait to see where you go from here.
