In recent news that is actually not that shocking, Cartoon Network has cancelled both Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Released in the press earlier was CN’s slated block of DC Nation television which left their current airing shows absent in lieu of two new shows, Beware the Batman. Let’s just hope Cartoon Network ends the series current storyline so at least we have some form of closure.
Young Justice, for those that may not know, is Cartoon Network’s Emmy award winning (yes, EMMY AWARD WINNING), series focusing on the teenage heroes and sidekicks of top tier DC superheroes. The show first aired in November 2010, so it has been a good run I suppose. The second season, Young Justice: Invasion, began airing in April 2012 and has been wrought with constant delays in it’s scheduling. January 5th was actually it’s most recent return from delay…and now it is cancelled. I will be the first to admit that the show begin to add way too many heroes making the plot a convoluted mess as of late, but it was never short of keeping viewers on edge with worry about what would happen next. I often joked that the DC Nation block was the soap opera of cartons.
Green Lantern: The Animated Series never held my attention as much as Young Justice, but recently I had been enthralled with the AyaxRazer storyline so much that I shed actual tears at this past weekend’s episode. This series focuses on Hal Jordan as Green Lantern and Kilowog as his partner. Razer is a reformed Red Lantern and exclusive to the series. Can he please get his own comic book? I would read it passionately.
I think DC Nation could have done well as a two hour block by keeping these shows and adding the new additions. I know I would have way more excited to have two hours of DC then watching their new, LEGO Star Wars show. Beware the Batman and Teen Titans Go! seem like they will be incredible replacements for the beloved YJ and GL:TAS. I think I’ll miss Razer most of all.
Here’s hoping we at least get giant boxsets of the two series.
